Enjoy hors d'oeuvres followed by dinner, and network with your colleagues in the area. Active military personnel and veterans will receive a special rate for this event.

Soft Skills in Technology - Air Force Flying Lessons for Your IT Projects

Nate Amidon - Agile and SAFe Coach at Boeing

Agile is a team sport and technology is made by teams of people. The more complex and technical the project, the more important soft skills are to communication and problem solving within the project teams. Military aviation falls into this category of project, and the Air Force has developed best practices to manage this complexity. Nate will share lessons learned from military aviation, draw parallels to IT projects, and propose actions project managers can take with their teams to improve communication, alignment, and execution.

Nate Amidon spent 15 years leading people and programs for the U.S. Air Force, Microsoft, and Boeing. He has flown over 3,000 hours as an Air Force pilot in the C-17 where he led a crew of Airmen on global combat and humanitarian Air Force missions. As a C-17 instructor pilot, Nate has over 1,500 hours teaching young pilots how to fly, make decisions, and manage a team. After leaving the active-duty Air Force, Nate started consulting on software development teams as a project manager, scrum master, and SAFe coach of large-scale development programs. He started Form100 Consulting to help clients in the technology sector by applying military leadership best practices to software development programs. Nate holds a BS in management from the United States Air Force Academy; an MBA from the University of Nebraska, SPC, PMP, and CSM certifications; and is still an active C-17 pilot in the Air Force Reserve 313th Airlift Squadron.
